Advent Holiday in Salzburg

When the city begins to light up

Advent in Salzburg has a sound all of its own: bells ringing in the Old Town, candlelight in the windows and the bustling activity at the Christmas markets in Salzburg city centre. High above the city lies the Gersberg Alm – warm, peaceful and inviting.

While the city sparkles below, you can find peace and quiet here. A short break at the Gersberg Alm during Advent means taking a moment to slow down rather than joining the hustle and bustle, and enjoying views of the twinkling city instead of the crowds at the Christmas markets. Atmospheric, cosy and completely free from the Christmas rush.

Why Advent in Salzburg is so Special

Advent in Salzburg offers a wide variety of Advent markets: from the Christkindlmarkt on Domplatz and Residenzplatz, whose origins date back to the late 15th century, to smaller, atmospheric markets in the surrounding communities. The Salzburg region becomes a stage – for music and tradition, for craftsmanship and for indulgence.

The Gersberg Alm’s Sauna Area: Winter Tranquillity in the Mountains

Back at the hotel, the evening is all about warmth. In the sauna area, the Finnish sauna, steam room and infrared cabin banish the chill of the day: first the dry heat, then the gentle steam, followed by the soothing, deep warmth of the infrared cabin. In between, you can relax on the loungers while your body unwinds and your thoughts begin to quieten.

Outside, snow lies on the ground; inside, everything is quiet and warm. It is a small moment of peace, especially during the dark winter months.

À la carte Restaurant The Gersberg Alm

When darkness falls early, a table at the restaurant is the best place to be. Our cuisine remains regional and authentic, with a heartier touch in winter: Austrian classics, game and stews, all freshly prepared by head chef Florian Dornstauder and his team.

Choose a wine from our list of around 120 carefully selected wines, and let the evening continue well into the night. If you are planning a Christmas dinner or would like to dine with us during the festive season, please book well in advance.
