Whilst you unwind on your holiday in Salzburg, your dog will also rediscover its own rhythm. The trails start right outside the hotel and are suitable for everything from a short stroll to a long hike.

Your dog is, of course, welcome to stay with us – whether you’re looking for a break as a couple, travelling with your family or on your own. Long walks through the woods in the morning, hikes up to the summit of the Gaisberg or a quiet afternoon in our gardens – here, every day spent together finds its own rhythm.

Anyone planning a city break to Salzburg with their dog usually accepts that their dog will have to make do with narrow streets and pavements.
At the Gersberg Alm, it’s different: nestled in the countryside yet only a few minutes’ walk from Salzburg’s Old Town, nobody has to choose between the city and nature. From our dog-friendly boutique hotel, the paths lead into our spacious hotel garden or straight into the woods and up towards the Gaisberg.
The forests and lakes of the Salzburg region are within easy reach for longer day trips. This is a great base for a holiday with your dog in the Salzburg region.
Gaisberg & Nockstein
- Gaisberg: Salzburg’s local mountain, which begins right on the doorstep. Numerous paths lead up to the summit; those who prefer a more leisurely pace can stretch their legs on the Gaisberg circular walk.
- Nockstein: varied and easy to walk, with shady woodland sections. At the summit, the view stretches far across the city and countryside; the final few metres require sure-footedness from both human and dog.
Salzkammergut
- Schafberg (1,783 m): the most beautiful view over Lake Wolfgang. The Schafbergbahn cable car also carries dogs – so even the ascent is a pleasure.
- Ellmaustein (639 m): a short, steep climb with a great reward – the view of Lake Fuschl. Ideal when time is short but you’re keen for a panoramic view.
- Zwölferhorn (1,522 m): easily accessible by cable car, perfect for leisurely high-altitude walks. Dogs must be kept on a lead and wear a muzzle.
- Fuschlsee Circular Walk: a leisurely walk around the turquoise-blue lake, with shady woodland sections and frequent access to the lake – including for your dog, who might want to take a dip now and then.
Even though there are opportunities right on your doorstep, the Salzburg region also has a number of treasures to offer. All around the mountain hotel are dog-friendly destinations where your four-legged friend isn’t merely tolerated but actually welcomed: gentle hills with sweeping views, clear streams, and alpine pastures where a bowl of water is a given.
