Your Festival Hotel in Salzburg

Grand stages & magnificent moments high above the city

An evening in Salzburg leaves a lasting impression: an aria, a concert or Jedermann on Domplatz. And because music never falls silent in the city, even outside the Festival season, one evening often leads to another.

Those who travel to Salzburg for the famous Salzburg Festival are often seeking peace and relaxation too, both before and after a performance. Once the final note has died away, the Gersberg Alm, high above the city, welcomes you back. It is your retreat during the Salzburg Festival, a place where the magic of the evening can linger.

Your Salzburg Festival Hideaway High Above the Rooftops of Salzburg

It takes around fifteen minutes to get from the Gersberg Alm to Salzburg’s famous Festspielhaus, close enough to set off at a leisurely pace just before the performance begins, yet far enough away to avoid the hustle and bustle once the final curtain has fallen. With the Guest Mobility Ticket included in your room rate, you can also reach the Old Town easily by public transport.

For anyone who does not want the evening to end after the performance, we offer something that can be hard to find in the city at this time of night: a good glass of wine and a late dinner.

365 Days of Culture in Salzburg

Salzburg’s reputation is based on its famous summer festival – yet the city’s cultural life does not come to a standstill during the rest of the year; it simply shifts to a different venue.

Four major events mark the cultural calendar:

  • Mozart Week: 21–31 January 2027
  • Easter Festival: 20–29 March 2027
  • Whitsun Festival: 14–17 May 2027
  • Salzburg Summer Festival in July and August

Even outside these four highlights, Salzburg remains what it has been for centuries: a city where concerts, theatre and chamber music are part of everyday life, not the exception.

Why is the Gersberg Alm your Favourite Salzburg Festival Hotel?

Just a short drive separates you from the Festspielhaus – close enough for the short journey, far enough for the peace and quiet afterwards.

Between performances, peace and quiet is precious, and a quiet room is the best place to find it: the Gersberg Alm welcomes you with forty rooms and suites, offering views of the countryside or the city of Salzburg.

Inspired by Austria, Created for You: A Culinary Experience at the Gersberg Alm

A great evening rarely begins in the auditorium – it often starts at the table. During the festival season, our gourmet restaurant becomes what it is all year round: a place where festival-goers meet before and after the performances to chat and round off the evening.

A distinctive character that has long been recognised far beyond Salzburg’s borders, and of which we are very proud.

A treat that’s part and parcel of the Salzburg festival season.

The cuisine remains true to its roots: regional and authentic, freshly prepared by head chef Florian Dornstauder and his team. Just let us know when you need to be in town, and we’ll set the table depending on when your performance starts.

The Salzburg Festival District Within Easy Reach

The Festival District, home to the Great Festspielhaus, the House for Mozart and the Riding School, is just a short drive away. With the included Guest Mobility Ticket, you can reach it easily by public transport.

During the festival season, there are access restrictions for car traffic in parts of the Old Town – a fact that surprises many visitors, but not our guests: the Gersberg Alm is located outside this zone and remains easily accessible, with free parking spaces. So you can get to the performance in no time – and just as quickly back up high on the mountain, where tranquillity begins as soon as the curtain falls.

Your Festival Retreat in a Secluded Spot Close to Nature

Not every hour of a cultural break is spent on the big stages. As well as musical performances, there’s also a need for some peaceful relaxation – exercise, fresh air or simply a quiet afternoon in our garden.

In summer, our hotel, with its outdoor pool and sun terrace, invites you to linger; the tennis court beckons for a game; and the paths on the Gaisberg invite you to take a walk with sweeping views. During the colder months, in changeable weather, or during your next Advent break in Salzburg, our small but cosy sauna area will keep you warm.
