A Hotel Steeped in Tradition and History

Die Gersberg Alm

Some places change with each generation – yet remain true to themselves. Die Gersberg Alm above Salzburg is one such place.

The Gersberg estate was first mentioned in documents as far back as 1692. What was once a traditional farmstead on the southern slope of the Gaisberg is now a mountain hotel where guests from all over the world can find a peaceful, intimate retreat.

From a Farm to a Famous Romantic Hotel

Hospitality has a long history here. In the 1930s, the owner at the time – a director of the Salzburg Waterworks – first opened the estate to guests and had simple rooms built in the hayloft of the stable. In 1965, a campsite was added on the former alpine pasture land, followed shortly afterwards by a building housing two bowling alleys – a tradition that lives on to this day.

A New Chapter: 1990

In 1988, the Salzburg-based lawyer Dr Franz Kreibich and the builder, engineer Johann Myslik, took over the property. Within a year, under the direction of architect Felix Cevla, the ageing mountain inn was transformed into a modern hotel – complete with its own outdoor dining area, tennis court and outdoor swimming pool.

On 1 June 1990, Die Gersberg Alm opened its doors in its current form. Anyone looking closely through the woods above the pool today can still spot the remains of the former ski jump – a silent witness to this place’s eventful history.

New Hosts, the Same High Standards

After almost 30 years under the management of Regina and Robert Winkler, Die Gersberg Alm has been in the hands of Marion and Johannes Hausberger since July 2024.

Both brought with them experience from the international hospitality industry – and, above all, the desire to continue running the establishment with the same warmth for which it has been known for decades.
